DNA Testing

DNA really works. Based on my Ancestry.com DNA profile, I was able to locate a Shotts descendant of Cora Isabelle Tapscott and Richard Morgan Sweet of Clark County, Illinois, through their daughter Ruth Sweet, wife of Aaron R. Shotts. He was predicted from the Ancestry.com testing to be my 3rd cousin.  He is actually my second cousin once removed and the first personal contact I have had from the Shotts line. I realize that this has nothing to do directly with my book, Henry the Immigrant, but I may use this contact when I write my planned book on the Clark County Tapscotts.

I haven't died. I've just been spending all my time on the Wehner book instead of finalizing the Tapscott book as I should. I will get it done. Mary Frances and I are planning an extended trip to North Carolina and Kentucky next year for research on a second book, the descendants of William Tapscott, son of Edney (my line). Keep checking back here. I hope to say "it's finished and out" in the near future.

Still Alive

To let everyone know. I am still alive, just putting off publishing. I also received some DNA results that I want to look at though I do not expect anything in time for publication.

The second edition is essentially finished. Now I have to get it printed. Keep your eye on this blog to see the progress.

I had a message from a descendant of Alcinda Tapscott, who married Thomas Snead. Alcinda is a descendant of Nancy Ann who married William Tapscott (son of Capt. Henry), but is probably a child of an earlier marriage. The message stated that Alcinda and Thomas had come from Scotland to Culpeper County Virginia. It is just possible, but I really need proof. Alcinda and Thomas did not marry until they were in Kentucky. There is still much that is mysterious about this family. William apparently married three times, but we know nothing about his first wife, Frances Washington, and little about his last wife Nancy Ann, who may have married a Graham and may have come from Scotland. I may not be able to clear this up before my 2nd edition is printed. Any help would be appreciated.

I must apologize. I had hoped to be able to get something done on this book, but my other book, the Wehners of Southeast Missouri, keeps dragging me back.

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

For those waiting patiently. I am sorry to say that I am still tied up on my book about the Wehners of Southeast Missouri. As soon as it is finished I will head back to the Tapscotts to get the book out.

Several people have asked about the 2nd edition of my book Henry the Immigrant: The First Tapscotts of Virginia. I am pleased to report that the second edition, which answers some questions in the first edition, corrects some errors (admittedly few), and carries the lineage from the first Henry Tapscott another generation or so, is essentially completed. However, it will be a while before it is printed. I advise that you watch this site to find the publication date. I also will be posting new information on the Tapscott line that I come across.
